The Novosibirsk factory “Iskra” has developed a new design for a cartridge case that features a simplified construction and enhanced durability, as detailed in a recent patent. This capped cartridge case incorporates a primer fixed in a specially designed recess at the base, which is ignited upon striking by the firearm’s firing pin. The main innovation lies in the elimination of the recessed base, replaced by a flat design that increases structural integrity. The specific dimensions for the primer pocket and the primer itself are derived from a proprietary mathematical formula, enabling precise adjustments to the case components for various applications. The advancements contribute to reduced manufacturing complexity and cost, while also enhancing reliability and responsiveness, ensuring consistent ignition with minimal delay. This new cartridge design paves the way for the production of precision ammunition for sniper rifles such as the “Ugolok,” which is currently under development by Rostec and utilizes entirely domestically sourced materials. The strategic relevance of this innovation positions Russia to enhance its small arms capabilities significantly, particularly in the realm of sniper technology.
