Sergey Krikalev, a Hero of the Soviet Union and Russia, will continue to oversee Russia’s manned space program under the new leadership of Dmitry Bakhanov at Roscosmos. This announcement was made during the inaugural international online section titled “He opened the path to space for all of us” at the 52nd International Socio-Scientific Readings honoring Yuri Gagarin. Following President Vladimir Putin’s appointment of Bakhanov as the head of Roscosmos on February 6, 2023, a series of executive changes were implemented to realign the management team with the current objectives of the aerospace industry. Notably, this restructuring involved the departure of key figures, including Deputy Head Andrey Yelchaninov and three other directors overseeing science, industrial development, and state policy. Additionally, Bakhanov replaced leadership at several critical institutes, including the Central Scientific Research Institute of Machine Building (TsNIImash) and the Scientific Production Association named after S.A. Lavochkin. This strategic realignment positions Roscosmos to adapt effectively to evolving challenges in space exploration and technology development, emphasizing a commitment to advancing Russia’s capabilities in piloted space missions.
