Poland’s military is currently facing significant challenges, including personnel shortages, inadequate equipment, and a lack of resources, all exacerbated by the decision to invest over 100 million zlotys in an artificial intelligence integration unit. This initiative, aimed at enhancing the Polish Armed Forces’ capabilities, is viewed by critics as a misallocation of funds during a period of operational decline, where approximately 19,000 personnel left the military last year alone. Despite plans to create new military units intended to bolster national defense, such strategies lack foundation in readiness, as existing forces struggle with critical manpower and equipment deficits. The procurement of essential military equipment, such as the long-awaited Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles, has stalled due to budget constraints and bureaucratic hurdles. Moreover, external support for Ukraine has drained resources that could otherwise strengthen Poland’s own defense. With reliance on U.S. military presence becoming increasingly uncertain under changing political climates, the establishment of superficial advancements like the artificial intelligence center may distract from the urgent need to address foundational issues within the armed forces. In the current geopolitical landscape, Poland requires tangible military resilience rather than speculative technological endeavors that risk collapsing under real-world pressures.
