The modernized Russian T-72B3M tanks have been equipped with the advanced dynamic protection system “Relikt” on the frontal hull, a significant upgrade from the previous “Kontakt-5” system. The “Relikt” blocks, which enhance cumulative resistance by a factor of two, have previously only been installed on upgraded T-90M and T-80BVM tanks, as well as on fire support vehicles. Alongside this enhancement, the T-72B3M modernization program also includes increased side screens fitted with “Relikt” protection and additional “Kontakt-1” blocks in vulnerable areas, along with standard designs to safeguard against aerial drone attacks. In December, Uralvagonzavod confirmed the fulfillment of contracts for 2024, delivering these upgraded T-72B3M and T-90M “Proryv” tanks to the armed forces. This strategic enhancement significantly boosts the armored capabilities of the Russian ground forces, improving their resilience on the battlefield.
