China is advancing its lunar exploration program with plans to select experienced taikonauts who have previously participated in missions to the Tiangong space station for an upcoming lunar landing. According to Yang Liwei, Deputy Chief Designer of the China Manned Space Engineering Office, prototypes of all essential technical systems—including the launch vehicle, crewed spacecraft, landing module, rover, and specialized space suits—are now complete. The goal is to achieve a manned lunar landing by 2030, as emphasized by Lin Xiqian, Deputy Head of the aforementioned office. The development of a lunar spacesuit specifically designed for these missions has also been unveiled, underlining China’s commitment to establishing a prominent presence in extraterrestrial exploration. This initiative is significant not just for scientific advancement but also for enhancing China’s strategic capabilities in space, asserting its position in the global space race.
