On March 11, 2025, Airbus Helicopters unveiled the H140, a new light twin-engine helicopter positioned primarily for emergency medical services. Officially introduced at the VERTICON 2025 exhibition in Dallas, Texas, the H140 is an evolution of the H135 platform, originally designated as the H135T4 during its development phase. The helicopter features a 20% larger cabin volume, enhanced cruising speed, and improved flight characteristics, while operational costs are expected to be comparable to smaller class helicopters. Powered by two Safran Arrius 2E engines, each producing 700 hp, the H140 incorporates a new all-composite tail boom and a Fenestron tail rotor design. With a maximum takeoff weight of 3,175 kg, its passenger variant accommodates six individuals. Anticipated flight tests for the second prototype will commence in late 2025, with initial market entry targeting the emergency medical sector by 2028. The significant demand was evident immediately post-launch, as Airbus secured contracts and options for 64 units, including 36 commitments from U.S. operators. The introduction of the H140 solidifies Airbus Helicopters’ commitment to enhancing medical airlift capabilities and showcases its strategic focus on expanding its footprint in the light helicopter market.
