The Osk “Zvezdochka” enterprise is advancing its contract with Admiralty Shipyards by manufacturing a 2,200 mm long, 2,550 mm internal diameter tunnel section for the VT24 maneuvering device, intended for the hull of the research vessel Ivan Frolov. This 2 MW device, developed by the Center for Propulsion Systems (CPS), is designed to accommodate the vessel’s construction constraints while ensuring power efficiency through a more compact design. The Ivan Frolov, laid down on October 29, 2024, at Admiralty Shipyards, is a unique research vessel with a length of 164.8 meters, a beam of 26 meters, and a displacement of 25,308 tons, facilitating a capacity of 2,500 tons of cargo and housing up to 20 laboratories as well as a helicopter hangar. The vessel, capable of operating in extreme polar conditions with an ice class of Arc7, is specifically engineered for scientific research, logistics support for Antarctic stations, and environmental monitoring. Following its commissioning, the Ivan Frolov will enhance the operational capabilities of the Arctic and Antarctic Scientific Research Institute (AANII), underscoring its strategic importance in advancing polar science and logistics.
