The first stage of the Russian medium-lift rocket “Soyuz-5” has been dispatched for testing. This prototype is being transported from the Progress Rocket and Space Centre to the Research and Test Center of the Rocket and Space Industry for cold and hot static tests. The first launch of the Soyuz-5 is scheduled for December 2025, as confirmed by a protocol from the intergovernmental commission between Russia and Kazakhstan regarding the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Additionally, Dmitry Baranov, General Director of Progress Rocket and Space Centre, announced plans for the development of a heavy-class rocket based on the Soyuz-5 design. This advancement not only underscores Russia’s commitment to enhancing its launch capabilities but also strategically positions it for future space exploration initiatives.
